THE SOUTH BEND & MICHIANA REGION

South Bend is the fourth largest city in Indiana. It is the economic and cultural hub of the
region, commonly known as Michiana, which encompasses portions of north-central
Indiana and south-central Michigan.

Adjacent communities include Mishawaka, Elkhart,
LaPorte, Ft. Wayne and Valparaiso, Indiana and Niles, Buchanan and St. Joseph,
Michigan. South Bend may be best known as the home of the University of Notre Dame,
as well as the former home of the Studebaker Corporation.

South Bend is approximately 100 miles from Chicago and accessible by commuter rail.
The city is approximately 140 miles from Indianapolis and 200 miles from Detroit.
